Terms of use

The short version: be decent to each other, don’t post things that aren’t yours, and don’t lie about volunteer hours. The longer version is below, still in plain English.

Who can use Locked

Locked is for high school students at a participating school, plus the teachers and advisors who support them. You need a school chapter to join, and a chapter leader approves your request.

You must be 13 or older. That was implied by “high school” and is now said out loud, because implication is not a rule. If we find out an account belongs to someone under 13 we close it and delete what we hold. If you are a parent and believe your child under 13 has an account, tell us and we will remove it.

One account per person. Don’t share your login, and don’t sign up as someone else.

How to behave

Don’t post anything that:

  • harasses, bullies, threatens, or demeans another person
  • shares someone else’s private information without their say-so
  • is sexual content involving minors, in any form, ever
  • promotes self-harm, drugs, weapons, or anything illegal
  • you don’t have the right to share, including other people’s work
  • is spam, a scam, or an attempt to sell something

Photos of other students are their business too. Don’t post someone’s picture if they wouldn’t want you to.

Volunteer hours

Hours on Locked can end up in front of colleges and scholarship committees, which only works if they’re true. Log what you actually did. Chapter leaders can’t approve their own hours, and claims over a few hours go to a school advisor to co-sign. Those checks exist to protect the students who are honest.

Inventing hours, or approving hours you know to be false, means losing your account and having your transcript invalidated.

What you post stays yours

You own what you write and upload. By posting it you give Locked permission to show it to the people you posted it to, and nothing more We don’t license your work to anyone else or use it to promote the platform without asking you first.

You can delete your own posts, guides, and uploads whenever you like.

Moderation

Posts and submissions from members are reviewed by a chapter leader before they go live. Leaders and staff can remove content and, for serious or repeated problems, suspend an account.

If something of yours is removed and you think that’s wrong, reply to the notice or email us. A person will look at it again. We’d rather be corrected than be quietly unfair.

If you run a chapter or club

Leading a chapter means seeing other students’ names, emails, and volunteer records. That access is for running the chapter, not for anything else. Don’t export it, don’t share it, don’t use it to contact people outside Locked.

Approving hours is a real responsibility. Approve what you have reason to believe happened.

Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time from your profile. What that removes is described in the privacy policy.

We can suspend or remove an account that breaks these rules, particularly anything in the conduct or volunteer-hours sections. Where it’s a genuine mistake we’ll say what went wrong first.

What we can and can’t promise

Locked is a student-built project. We work hard on it, but we can’t promise it will never go down or never lose something. Keep your own copy of anything that matters. You can download all your data from your profile at any time.

Opportunities posted here come from students and outside organisations. We review submissions, but we can’t vouch for every program. Use your judgement, and tell an adult you trust before signing up for something that asks for money or personal details.
